Find a firm that will listen & learn about your business. When you are working with an outside counsel, the best business relationships start with listening. You want an outside partner that will want to listen to your needs, goals and objectives. That’s why at Parsus, when we start working with a new client, we make sure to include a listening component to our onboarding so we can understand our clients needs.
Be clear about your business goals, needs, and pain points. Is your team under a great deal of stress? How does your overflow work fit into your larger business objectives? Do you need outside advice - or do you need someone to get the job done? Did you lose a key team member, or are you in a hiring freeze? Clarifying your business goals, needs, and pain points can help elevate your outside legal counsel from “overflow help” to “trusted business partner.” At Parsus, we seek to provide the former, but we are so proud when our clients say we are the latter!
Look for systems to share communication & new projects. “Let us know when the contracts are ready,” which may be simple when you have one or two contracts in progress. But what about when you have 150? Look for a partner who won’t just help you finish the job but will keep you informed and updated with a communication & project manager system.
